Next Year
While it is still too early to see when and how the preceding will play out, the MSP and Village have just learned that from the office of Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton that the New York State Department of Transportation will come NEXT SUMMER to slurry seal Main Street. The DOT's work will run from the Main Street/Cemetery Road intersection and then all the way to the Tompkins-Seneca county line. This work will be completely covered by the state and will not cost any Village funds.
Slurry seal is a thin layer of epoxy that will go over the pavement on Main Street and provide a weathering surface that protects that actual asphalt. The process will also make Main Street's pavement completly uniform as the epoxy will cover the existing contrasts between old pavement and new pavement. One can compare this process to sealing a driveway, albeit on a grander scale.
Many thanks to Assemblywoman Lifton for asking the DOT add their own help to the overall completion of the Main Street Project.
